AsĀ bizarreĀ as this sounds, I love doing 8 hour shifts starting at 3AM. I love being able to get off at 11:30 so I can have the rest of the day to kick it with my girls. There’s a certain calmness in the wee hours as I drive to Emeryville and look at all the lights. There’s a quiet in the store as we stock the shelves, one that I get for six hours in the morning versus the thirty minutes at night. There’s the replenishment manager, who always manages to teach me something about life whenever I work with him. And of course, there’s the amazing night’s sleep I’ll get the next day.

Watching Charmed and kind of cleaning my room.

This one is a little late, but it’s a well needed blog. No matter where everyone is, I can count on them being here during break. The thing that’s even more reliable than that fact is the friendship itself. Before, kicking it was limited to where ever our legs could carry us; that’s the only thing that’s changed. The atmosphere that they create in my life is exactly the same as it is before, and those are the kind of friendships I want to preserve for the rest of my life. These are the parents of my children’s playmates, or at least I’d like to think so.
And even though my heart may not know how much it misses them, it always knows that a piece of itself has returned whenever I’m with them.
